  Ezekiel 3-4

3:1 And he said to me, "Son of man, eat what is before you, eat this scroll; then go and speak to the house of Israel."
3:2 So I opened my mouth, and he gave me the scroll to eat.
3:3 Then he said to me, "Son of man, eat this scroll I am giving you and fill your stomach with it." So I ate it, and it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth.
3:4 He then said to me
3:5 You are not being sent to a people of obscure speech and difficult language, but to the house of Israel--
3:6 not to many peoples of obscure speech and difficult language, whose words you cannot understand. Surely if I had sent you to them, they would have listened to you.
3:7 But the house of Israel is not willing to listen to you because they are not willing to listen to me, for the whole house of Israel is hardened and obstinate.
3:8 But I will make you as unyielding and hardened as they are.
3:9 I will make your forehead like the hardest stone, harder than flint. Do not be afraid of them or terrified by them, though they are a rebellious house."
3:10 And he said to me, "Son of man, listen carefully and take to heart all the words I speak to you.
3:11 Go now to your countrymen in exile and speak to them. Say to them, "This is what the Sovereign LORD says," whether they listen or fail to listen."
3:12 Then the Spirit lifted me up, and I heard behind me a loud rumbling sound-- May the glory of the LORD be praised in his dwelling place!--
3:13 the sound of the wings of the living creatures brushing against each other and the sound of the wheels beside them, a loud rumbling sound.
3:14 The Spirit then lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness and in the anger of my spirit, with the strong hand of the LORD upon me.
3:15 I came to the exiles who lived at Tel Abib near the Kebar River. And there, where they were living, I sat among them for seven days-- overwhelmed.
3:16 At the end of seven days the word of the LORD came to me
3:17 "Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.
3:18 When I say to a wicked man, "You will surely die," and you do not warn him or speak out to dissuade him from his evil ways in order to save his life, that wicked man will die for his sin, and I will hold you accountable for his blood.
3:19 But if you do warn the wicked man and he does not turn from his wickedness or from his evil ways, he will die for his sin; but you will have saved yourself.
3:20 "Again, when a righteous man turns from his righteousness and does evil, and I put a stumbling block before him, he will die. Since you did not warn him, he will die for his sin. The righteous things he did will not be remembered, and I will hold you accountable for his blood.
3:21 But if you do warn the righteous man not to sin and he does not sin, he will surely live because he took warning, and you will have saved yourself."
3:22 The hand of the LORD was upon me there, and he said to me, "Get up and go out to the plain, and there I will speak to you."
3:23 So I got up and went out to the plain. And the glory of the LORD was standing there, like the glory I had seen by the Kebar River, and I fell facedown.
3:24 Then the Spirit came into me and raised me to my feet. He spoke to me and said
3:25 And you, son of man, they will tie with ropes; you will be bound so that you cannot go out among the people.
3:26 I will make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth so that you will be silent and unable to rebuke them, though they are a rebellious house.
3:27 But when I speak to you, I will open your mouth and you shall say to them, "This is what the Sovereign LORD says." Whoever will listen let him listen, and whoever will refuse let him refuse; for they are a rebellious house.
4:1 "Now, son of man, take a clay tablet, put it in front of you and draw the city of Jerusalem on it.
4:2 Then lay siege to it
4:3 Then take an iron pan, place it as an iron wall between you and the city and turn your face toward it. It will be under siege, and you shall besiege it. This will be a sign to the house of Israel.
4:4 "Then lie on your left side and put the sin of the house of Israel upon yourself. You are to bear their sin for the number of days you lie on your side.
4:5 I have assigned you the same number of days as the years of their sin. So for 390 days you will bear the sin of the house of Israel.
4:6 "After you have finished this, lie down again, this time on your right side, and bear the sin of the house of Judah. I have assigned you 40 days, a day for each year.
4:7 Turn your face toward the siege of Jerusalem and with bared arm prophesy against her.
4:8 I will tie you up with ropes so that you cannot turn from one side to the other until you have finished the days of your siege.
4:9 "Take wheat and barley, beans and lentils, millet and spelt; put them in a storage jar and use them to make bread for yourself. You are to eat it during the 390 days you lie on your side.
4:10 Weigh out twenty shekels of food to eat each day and eat it at set times.
4:11 Also measure out a sixth of a hin of water and drink it at set times.
4:12 Eat the food as you would a barley cake; bake it in the sight of the people, using human excrement for fuel."
4:13 The LORD said, "In this way the people of Israel will eat defiled food among the nations where I will drive them."
4:14 Then I said, "Not so, Sovereign LORD! I have never defiled myself. From my youth until now I have never eaten anything found dead or torn by wild animals. No unclean meat has ever entered my mouth."
4:15 "Very well," he said, "I will let you bake your bread over cow manure instead of human excrement."
4:16 He then said to me
4:17 for food and water will be scarce. They will be appalled at the sight of each other and will waste away because of their sin.

  Hebrews 11

11:1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
11:2 This is what the ancients were commended for.
11:3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
11:4 By faith Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. By faith he was commended as a righteous man, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith he still speaks, even though he is dead.
11:5 By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.
11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
11:7 By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.
11:8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.
11:9 By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise.
11:10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
11:11 By faith Abraham, even though he was past age-- and Sarah herself was barren-- was enabled to become a father because he considered him faithful who had made the promise.
11:12 And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.
11:13 All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth.
11:14 People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own.
11:15 If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return.
11:16 Instead, they were longing for a better country-- a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.
11:17 By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son,
11:18 even though God had said to him, "It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned."
11:19 Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death.
11:20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau in regard to their future.
11:21 By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of Joseph's sons, and worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff.
11:22 By faith Joseph, when his end was near, spoke about the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt and gave instructions about his bones.
11:23 By faith Moses" parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king's edict.
11:24 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh's daughter.
11:25 He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time.
11:26 He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.
11:27 By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king's anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible.
11:28 By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch the firstborn of Israel.
11:29 By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned.
11:30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the people had marched around them for seven days.
11:31 By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient.
11:32 And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets,
11:33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions,
11:34 quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies.
11:35 Women received back their dead, raised to life again. Others were tortured and refused to be released, so that they might gain a better resurrection.
11:36 Some faced jeers and flogging, while still others were chained and put in prison.
11:37 They were stoned; they were sawed in two; they were put to death by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated--
11:38 the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, and in caves and holes in the ground.
11:39 These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised.
11:40 God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.
