  Ezekiel 37-39


37:1 The hand of the LORD was upon me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the LORD and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones.
37:2 He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry.
37:3 He asked me, "Son of man, can these bones live?" I said, "O Sovereign LORD, you alone know."
37:4 Then he said to me, "Prophesy to these bones and say to them, "Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD!
37:5 This is what the Sovereign LORD says to these bones
37:6 I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the LORD.""
37:7 So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone.
37:8 I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.
37:9 Then he said to me, "Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, "This is what the Sovereign LORD says
37:10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet-- a vast army.
37:11 Then he said to me
37:12 Therefore prophesy and say to them
37:13 Then you, my people, will know that I am the LORD, when I open your graves and bring you up from them.
37:14 I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the LORD have spoken, and I have done it, declares the LORD.""
37:15 The word of the LORD came to me
37:16 "Son of man, take a stick of wood and write on it, "Belonging to Judah and the Israelites associated with him." Then take another stick of wood, and write on it, "Ephraim's stick, belonging to Joseph and all the house of Israel associated with him."
37:17 Join them together into one stick so that they will become one in your hand.
37:18 "When your countrymen ask you, "Won"t you tell us what you mean by this?"
37:19 say to them, "This is what the Sovereign LORD says
37:20 Hold before their eyes the sticks you have written on
37:21 and say to them, "This is what the Sovereign LORD says
37:22 I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel. There will be one king over all of them and they will never again be two nations or be divided into two kingdoms.
37:23 They will no longer defile themselves with their idols and vile images or with any of their offenses, for I will save them from all their sinful backsliding, and I will cleanse them. They will be my people, and I will be their God.
37:24 ""My servant David will be king over them, and they will all have one shepherd. They will follow my laws and be careful to keep my decrees.
37:25 They will live in the land I gave to my servant Jacob, the land where your fathers lived. They and their children and their children's children will live there forever, and David my servant will be their prince forever.
37:26 I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant. I will establish them and increase their numbers, and I will put my sanctuary among them forever.
37:27 My dwelling place will be with them; I will be their God, and they will be my people.
37:28 Then the nations will know that I the LORD make Israel holy, when my sanctuary is among them forever.""
38:1 The word of the LORD came to me
38:2 "Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal; prophesy against him
38:3 and say
38:4 I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws and bring you out with your whole army-- your horses, your horsemen fully armed, and a great horde with large and small shields, all of them brandishing their swords.
38:5 Persia, Cush and Put will be with them, all with shields and helmets,
38:6 also Gomer with all its troops, and Beth Togarmah from the far north with all its troops-- the many nations with you.
38:7 ""Get ready; be prepared, you and all the hordes gathered about you, and take command of them.
38:8 After many days you will be called to arms. In future years you will invade a land that has recovered from war, whose people were gathered from many nations to the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate. They had been brought out from the nations, and now all of them live in safety.
38:9 You and all your troops and the many nations with you will go up, advancing like a storm; you will be like a cloud covering the land.
38:10 ""This is what the Sovereign LORD says
38:11 You will say, "I will invade a land of unwalled villages; I will attack a peaceful and unsuspecting people-- all of them living without walls and without gates and bars.
38:12 I will plunder and loot and turn my hand against the resettled ruins and the people gathered from the nations, rich in livestock and goods, living at the center of the land."
38:13 Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish and all her villages will say to you, "Have you come to plunder? Have you gathered your hordes to loot, to carry off silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods and to seize much plunder?""
38:14 "Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say to Gog
38:15 You will come from your place in the far north, you and many nations with you, all of them riding on horses, a great horde, a mighty army.
38:16 You will advance against my people Israel like a cloud that covers the land. In days to come, O Gog, I will bring you against my land, so that the nations may know me when I show myself holy through you before their eyes.
38:17 ""This is what the Sovereign LORD says
38:18 This is what will happen in that day
38:19 In my zeal and fiery wrath I declare that at that time there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel.
38:20 The fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the beasts of the field, every creature that moves along the ground, and all the people on the face of the earth will tremble at my presence. The mountains will be overturned, the cliffs will crumble and every wall will fall to the ground.
38:21 I will summon a sword against Gog on all my mountains, declares the Sovereign LORD. Every man's sword will be against his brother.
38:22 I will execute judgment upon him with plague and bloodshed; I will pour down torrents of rain, hailstones and burning sulfur on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him.
38:23 And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the LORD."
39:1 "Son of man, prophesy against Gog and say
39:2 I will turn you around and drag you along. I will bring you from the far north and send you against the mountains of Israel.
39:3 Then I will strike your bow from your left hand and make your arrows drop from your right hand.
39:4 On the mountains of Israel you will fall, you and all your troops and the nations with you. I will give you as food to all kinds of carrion birds and to the wild animals.
39:5 You will fall in the open field, for I have spoken, declares the Sovereign LORD.
39:6 I will send fire on Magog and on those who live in safety in the coastlands, and they will know that I am the LORD.
39:7 ""I will make known my holy name among my people Israel. I will no longer let my holy name be profaned, and the nations will know that I the LORD am the Holy One in Israel.
39:8 It is coming! It will surely take place, declares the Sovereign LORD. This is the day I have spoken of.
39:9 ""Then those who live in the towns of Israel will go out and use the weapons for fuel and burn them up-- the small and large shields, the bows and arrows, the war clubs and spears. For seven years they will use them for fuel.
39:10 They will not need to gather wood from the fields or cut it from the forests, because they will use the weapons for fuel. And they will plunder those who plundered them and loot those who looted them, declares the Sovereign LORD.
39:11 ""On that day I will give Gog a burial place in Israel, in the valley of those who travel east toward the Sea. It will block the way of travelers, because Gog and all his hordes will be buried there. So it will be called the Valley of Hamon Gog.
39:12 ""For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them in order to cleanse the land.
39:13 All the people of the land will bury them, and the day I am glorified will be a memorable day for them, declares the Sovereign LORD.
39:14 ""Men will be regularly employed to cleanse the land. Some will go throughout the land and, in addition to them, others will bury those that remain on the ground. At the end of the seven months they will begin their search.
39:15 As they go through the land and one of them sees a human bone, he will set up a marker beside it until the gravediggers have buried it in the Valley of Hamon Gog.
39:16 (Also a town called Hamonah will be there.) And so they will cleanse the land."
39:17 "Son of man, this is what the Sovereign LORD says
39:18 You will eat the flesh of mighty men and drink the blood of the princes of the earth as if they were rams and lambs, goats and bulls-- all of them fattened animals from Bashan.
39:19 At the sacrifice I am preparing for you, you will eat fat till you are glutted and drink blood till you are drunk.
39:20 At my table you will eat your fill of horses and riders, mighty men and soldiers of every kind," declares the Sovereign LORD.
39:21 "I will display my glory among the nations, and all the nations will see the punishment I inflict and the hand I lay upon them.
39:22 From that day forward the house of Israel will know that I am the LORD their God.
39:23 And the nations will know that the people of Israel went into exile for their sin, because they were unfaithful to me. So I hid my face from them and handed them over to their enemies, and they all fell by the sword.
39:24 I dealt with them according to their uncleanness and their offenses, and I hid my face from them.
39:25 "Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says
39:26 They will forget their shame and all the unfaithfulness they showed toward me when they lived in safety in their land with no one to make them afraid.
39:27 When I have brought them back from the nations and have gathered them from the countries of their enemies, I will show myself holy through them in the sight of many nations.
39:28 Then they will know that I am the LORD their God, for though I sent them into exile among the nations, I will gather them to their own land, not leaving any behind.
39:29 I will no longer hide my face from them, for I will pour out my Spirit on the house of Israel, declares the Sovereign LORD."

  2 Peter 2


2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them-- bringing swift destruction on themselves.
2:2 Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute.
2:3 In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.
2:4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment;
2:5 if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;
2:6 if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly;
2:7 and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men
2:8 (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)--
2:9 if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgment, while continuing their punishment.
2:10 This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature and despise authority. Bold and arrogant, these men are not afraid to slander celestial beings;
2:11 yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not bring slanderous accusations against such beings in the presence of the Lord.
2:12 But these men blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like brute beasts, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like beasts they too will perish.
2:13 They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.
2:14 With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed-- an accursed brood!
2:15 They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Beor, who loved the wages of wickedness.
2:16 But he was rebuked for his wrongdoing by a donkey-- a beast without speech-- who spoke with a man's voice and restrained the prophet's madness.
2:17 These men are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them.
2:18 For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of sinful human nature, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error.
2:19 They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity-- for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him.
2:20 If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning.
2:21 It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them.
